Puttaparthi vari 'Meghadutham' nundi drusya malika- 1

Friendz dears.....
'Meghadutham' in sanskrit is Mahakavi Kalidasa's adorable work in which the hero, one Yaksha, deprived of the company of his  lover, due to the anger of Kubera, describes his helplessness in enjoying the beauty of  different seasons and wants to send his message thru a cloud.
Puttaparthivaru also named his geyakavyam as "MEGHADUTHAM", but the subject differs completely.
His hero, a down-trodden man, who has been jailed, resulting in  deprival of the company of his pregnant wife, invites 'MEGHAM' (cloud) and asks very humbly to go to his wife and tell his agony to her.All this happened because, he supported his people who were also being sufferers of the DHANIKA VARGA.And so he has been jailed and being treated very cruelly. While describing the way to his wife, he describes the historical, mythological and geographical importance of the places the cloud comes across in Andhra region. He tells about the differences between the 'SRAMIKA VARGA and DHANIKA VARGA' also and asks the cloud to shed tears for the poor people. There is an important story behind this book.
Puttaparthi and Vidwan Viswam ('Penneti Pata' fame) were very thick friendz from Tirupathi days, probably 1930s.. Once when Viswam made a visit to Puttaparthi, Puttaparthi told him that 'he was in seach of a good plot for his next KAVYAM'. Vidwan Viswam, in their discussion, told about one of his reminiscence while he was in jail, during independence war. He saw an innocent victim in jail, who was jailed without proper evidence and was weeping always remembering his pregnant wife. One day, there was a very heavy rainfall and he was very feared seeing the black clouds and the thunders. He approached Viswamgaru and wept like a child remembering his wife.
This incident influenced Puttaparthi also. He also shed tears for the Khaidi like Viswamgaru.
After some days, when Puttaparthi wanted to start his GEYAKAVYAM, this incident sparked in his mind and it happened and created a history of 4 or 5 prints even.
We can see the influence of Marxism in this Kavyam. Rachamallu Ramachandra Reddy, Gajjela Mallareddy, Y.C.V.Reddy and other friendz of Puttaparthi, liked this work very much.
Sri Rajanna Kavi used to recite some stanzas from this book where ever he went.
I have seen maa ayyagaru, rendering passages from this book on stage too. That's how I want to give a 'DRYSYA MALIKA' rupam to my father's Geyakavyam. Pl. comment, if u like.u r welcome even otherwise.....

Friendz dears.....
This is me at the ge of 11 or 12 (I don't remember correctly)
At this age, I used to accompany maa ayyagaru, to the places of his lectures and sanmanams.
At this tender age, I was looking at his 'SIVATANDAVAM' rendition  in astonishment.
I used to admire him for his authenticity in lecturing on different topics.
I used to wait for his next trip to go with him again to hear his profound knowledge in music too.
When I was in 6th class, I was fascinated to wear the panjabi dress. My mother Smt.Kanakammagaru, any how, fulfilled my wish. The only problem was, my father only likes the traditional dress for girls.
How to wear this dress?
One fine day, I wore the dress 'cause my father did n't go to Sri Ramakrishna High School where he is working 'cause of some other work. ( I too was the student of the school)
I was very confident, that he will not see my dress.
I was playing in the the very big playing ground.
One senior boy came to me and told me that my father is calling me from class 8th.
I feared a lot. I did not understand, when did  he come to the school.Office correspondent was liking my father very much for his 'SARASWATHI PUTRATVAM and fame. He was allowed to go to the places of his sanmanam or others many a times unlike other teachers. The other Telugu Pandits were asked to handle his classes also in his absence. but..this time I don't know why my father came to school in the afternoon and saw me and called me even. Of course, that discussion was not neccessary at that time...Coming to the situation now.....how to escape from maa ayyagaru?
Everybody knows my father's anger.
I, very fearfully, reached him.
To my astonishment, maa ayyagaru, called me to him.
and said...'ok..At last ur mother fulfilled ur wish. But this does n't suit u. U look better in ur sual dress. don't wear this further. OK?'
That's all.
I was not able to come out of the shock yet..
The manner maa ayyagaru convinced me was un-imaginable.
I did not wore that dress again.
In good old days, parents did not have the time to teach the way how to LIVE in this vague world.
Their way of living, way of talking and the way of handling the situations were themselves 'LESSONS' to their children.
My father wanted my elder sisters, Karuna and Tarulatha, to become good karnatak music singers. He arranged good teacher. In addition, he used to practice music very regularly. That's how he has shown them the path way.
After 1945, he got oppourtunities to work in Anantapur (Govt. College), Tiruvananthapuram (kerala University) and New Delhi (Sahitya academi) but no where he stayed for a long time 'cause of different reasons.
Yet, he was feeling for the family and so came back to Kadapa permanently, (till my time) though on a very meager salary as a school teacher till my time.
I observed him studious reading.
I observed his UPASANA kramam.
I observed his music practice.
Those  r 'The permanent images' of my father Dr. Puttaparthi varu. I think parents of ester years were like my father.
All the parents of middle classes, were like that.
Their lives were very simple and straight. But my father was completely different.
He used to read 'BIBLE' at Oriental college Tirupathi, when his class mates were reading Chandassu or alankara sastram.
He tried to by-heart 'Paradise lost' of Milton unlike other students.
He was introduced to Prakritha  literature at the age of 14, and used to write articles on that literature at the age of 21.
Mallampally Somasekhara Sarmagaru , when he saw my father, did not believe that this young man could write elaborate and in-depth articles on prakrutha literature.
So...
These r all the incidents and experiences influenced us, the family members of Dr.Puttaparthivaru and they r the path ways for our lives.
Friendz dears....Do u agree?

Dasulaku dasudaiii... A Telugu Devotional song.of Smt.Puttparthi Kanakam...

The above song is very favorite to maa ayyagaru.
During 1970s, my holy mother started 'Valmiki Ramayana parayana sapthaham'  every week. Every week, she used to start the parayanam on sunday morning, and used to finish by following Saturday morning.
she has completed 108 parayanams like that.
On saturday morning, she used to perform the 'Rama pattabhisheka sarga' followed by day - long puja and rendering devotional songs.
Our neighbors and  friendz (nearly 50 numbers) used to come to our home (by 9,30a.m itself)with flowers, fruits and TULASI garlands for decorating the big SEETARAMA PATTABHISHEKAM foto and Lord Venkateswara-Sri Padmavathi fotos  and other idols in Puja Room. Some used to help my mother in preparation of prasadams  like vaishnava pulihora, dadhyojanam etc for distribution among the devotees after Seetha Rama Pattabhishekam.
After the rendition of the above sargas, there used to be the time of devotional songs in group.
To tell u the fact, those r the moments we r still living in.
Those r the moments, we still adore.
Those r the moments we still want to repeat.
After rendering devotional songs of Thyagaraja, Purandaradasa, Kanakadasa etc.. we were singing the devotional songs written by  my revered parents too.
In that session, the above song was the winding up song 'cause the above song is written by my mother on the 'SARANAGATHI' bhava like 'Bhrutyasya bhrutya paricharaka bhrutya bhrutya' rendered in Mukundamala stotram of Kulasekharalwar.
After this song, mangalaharathi and prasada vitharanam, we all used to go to 'Devuni kadapa' by walk for the darshan of Venkateswara swamy.
Those were our days of 'LIFE'.
Those were the days of 'Devotion'.
Those were the days of 'Obedience'.
We used to  experience our lives completely different from others, which start and end with  struggle for existence like food, enjoyment and sleep.
Though we were having friendz in higher classes and higher middle classes, we never experienced any lapse of luxury or dis-comfort in our daily lives.
Being in a family of a lower middle class,We never compared our selves with others and felt bad about our social status. Our only strength was 'our parents'.
Puttaparthivaru was a school teacher of 500Rs salary in 1960s.
Till 1970s, 1000Rs. was his salary.
During sanmanams, a meager amount like 118/- was the amount that was being presented to him.
Hardly 4 or 5 sanmanams in a year.
But, no regrets.
I still don't understand, how my holy mother was managing the house.
She was a house wife, a 'Swadheena pathika', a scribe in my father's works, a tailor of her children's cloths, a lyricist, a poetess and a devotee too.
I still don't understand, why people still remember her as 'their own mother' who used to do prayers for their hard days too.
That's why she has become 'HOLY MOTHER' to all of us.
When she passed away due to 'Brain Heme-rage' in 1983, maa ayyagaru too  wept like a child.
He wanted us to sing the above song on 12th day after all the rituals and wept as if he has lost his own 'MOTHER' for the 2nd time in his life.
This long story in behind the above song.
so, friendz..pl. listen to this song with SARANAGATHI bhava and experience the inner feel........

'prajyamulaina sampadalu'..Padyam of Dr.Puttaparthi

...Friendz fears....
Since so many days i could not update my blog 'cause of some domestic issues.
From now on wards, I try to post some beautiful poems of my revered father duly edited by myself, as 'Poetry will be more provocative and personalized, if rendered
This is one padyam of my father from his un-published work 'ASTASAMRAJYAM', with the theme of 'Rise  and fall of Vijayanagara empire'. After writing nearly 4000 padyalu, my father (Puttaparthivaru) does n't want to go for it's publication.
The reason he felt was, 'it may revoke the enmity between some religious groups.(No need to mention) He kept the Kavyam aside for some days. But un-expectedly,there were  Kundu river floods that time and the kavyam flown away in the waters of Kundu river in proddatur. But that was my father's dearest work, though un-published till date.
He used to mention 1 or 2 padyams from that work when ever he remembered his works.
This is one of them. Friendz dears, Pl. excuse me for my faults in rendering 'cause I am not a professional singer, but I tried and will try to my level best, to sing with the bhava, to maximum extent.
Pl..lend ur ears now for the following padyam.

Evaro Varevaro - Puttaparthi Narayanacharyulu

Friendz dears...
How did u feel after hearing this soothing song? This is written by maa ayyagaru Dr.Puttaparthivaru. Composed by the LIGHT MUSIC LEGEND composer Sri Palagummi Viswanadham garu. The swweeeet rendering makes us feel the inner meaning of the song. Is n't it friends?
Can u guess the singer's name?
Or else want me to give some clues?
Ok....
She is an excellent singer.
She is a popular figure in today's visual media.
She is daughter of AIR's most popular announcer's daughter.
Got it?
No? Not yet?
Ok..
Pl. recognise the following foto.

Have u succeeded?
Yes. U r right..
The singer is none other than  TV 9 Swapna who is an extra ordinary, multi -talented NEWS Presentor, Anchor and for some time she worked for a Tamil TV channel also.

In 1990s, one fine morning, her mother and my collegue, Smt. Jyotsna Iliyas Ahmadm (Retd. Senior Announcer AIR Hyd and one of the founder member of JAFA 4) came to me and very coolly, handed over an audio cassette and asked to see the details. It was her daughter SWAPNA's recording. As I went thru the details, surprisingly, one of the songs was my father's in the cassette. As I completed hearing that song with tearful eyes, my heart filled up with BIIIGGGGGG thanks to Swapna as she really sang it so soulfully. I still remember how I thanked Jyotsnagaru and Swapna too for selecting this song in that particular cassette. She told me that Sri Palagummi garu selected the songs for this cassette and Swapna being his student, rendered with her complete efforts doing full and 100 percent justification to the lyric and the raga.
Friendz,,,I have not counted how many times I heard this song..I beleive u too want to..Is n't it?

Monday 6 October 2014

Friendz  dears,
I like these parijatha flowers for their 'heavenly' smell and 'divine' appearence.
In my childhood, I used to get up in the early morning and after brushing, my first duty was to go to one of my nearest friend's house to collect the above flowers for my amma, Smt.Puttaparthi Kanakamma.
As the SUN rises, all the flowers from the above tree generally fall down very soon. It looks loke a flowery bed underneath the tree. That scene was very favorite one  of mine in those days, ofcourse till now even.
During festival days, and specially in NAVRATRI days, there was much of competition among children who used to collect flowers from their hose for puja. If one gets up a bit late, there was no chance of getting flowers for that day. 'cause that was the only nearest 'PARIJATHAM' tree for most of our friends.
I was getting up very early by 4.30am itself and after brushing teeth, running fastly to their house even before their back-doors were open to facilitate the children for 'flower-picking'. I was waiting near the doors to open and the first rays of 'DAWN' to fall on tree for flowers to bloom completely and fall from the tree. It was also a worth seeing scene to see the flowers falling from tree even.
I was returning home with basket full of flowers for 'NAVARATRI PUJA' in my house.
AS I became elder, I came to know about 'ADI SANKARA CHARYA's 'Soundarya Lahari' through maa ayyagaru's 'VALMIKI RAMAYANAM PRAVACHANAMS' and asked my mother to tell more about it. She told me that SOUNDARYALAHARI is full of BEELAKSHARAMS of DEVI and one should do the parayana with great devotion and dedication.
With her advice, I started the above slokas. First day I used to do the first sloka for 108 times followed by rest of the slokas. The 2nd day 2nd sloka 108 times, 3rd day 3rd sloka 108 times and it goes on like that.
Of couse, I am continuing that practice now also at the back drop of  the mild and divine smell of parijatha flowers.
Friendz dears, I think u also like the PARIJATHA flowers...

punnaga : Bhaavayami Part I

punnaga : Bhaavayami Part I: .... Friendz dears, No words to decribe my feelings while seeing Sri Sharathgaru's performance in this song. I first saw Miss Kalpa...
Friendz dears,,,
Dr. Gabbita Durgaprasadgaru is doing lots and lots of 'Telugu Bhasha Sahitya niswartha seva' since many years.'Sivathandavam' of Puttaparthi attracted him very much and almost he by-hearted complete book with great devotion towards the lyrical poetry of that work.
Being ardent lover of that work of Puttaparthivaru,he wrote an excellent article on 'Sivathandavam' of 'Puttaparthi' in 1970s itself more than as a research scholar.
I think he made one or two visits also to 'Puttaparthivaru' in person know the nuiances of that work. (I was studying at that time)
In his 'Sarasa bharathi' wordpress, recently, he wrote very valuable articles on  the book 'TRIPUTI'-a very rare collection of Puttaparthi's articles, (I have published it recently in 2012) editorials and padya vyakhyalu also.
www.sarasabharathi.wordpress.com
www.sarasabharathivuyyuru.wordpresss.com.
u cn read those very valuable articles on the above sites to know Annamayya thru Puttaparthi's view.
I thank from core of my heart Dr.Gabbita Durgaprasadgaru, for his latest vision of Puttaparthi, in connection with 'Saraswathiputra's 25th Vardhanthi. (1914-1990)

Sunday 31 August 2014

Friendz..dears.....Today Sep 1st is my revered father 'Puttaparthi'varu's 25th Vardhanthi....
From past ten days itself I am feeling guilty for 'NOT being successful' in publishing my father's works in his 100th year centenary celebrations. Though the funds were sanctioned by the then AP government, though I worked day and night in each and every work of press, though one book 'PADYA KAVYA SARVASWAM' of maa ayyagaru was released on Ugadi day of this year (31st March), complete copies r not available in the market because of 'due payments' to the press.
My father 'Puttaparthivaru' used to tell always 'RAJA KAALASYA KAARANAM'..means the rulers r the MAKERS of the TIME and changes. This is 100% true in my father's book publication even.
Though the orders of sanction of amount are with me, no body can do anything. Sanction is 'ON PAPER' but not in practical use.
Another  four complete works of  my father's "Gadya sahityam' namely 'Navala Katha Sahityam' 'Anuvada sahityam' and 'Vimarsana sahityam' (2volumes) are ready with all DTP works completed, no way to go for publication.
From past 18 years, I am publishing my father's works and with all my experience I can tell 'today,  there is more market for cinemas than the books.' Book reading is almost a DEAD habit.
If at all it is there, it prefers Shortstories, Novels and Puranic books not the 'Traditional Padya Kavyas'.
Many copies of the books I published r still lying on the Chajjas (low roofs) of my home.
So in these circumstances I could not dare of publishing my father's books spending lakhs of rupees.
I am answerable to my family even.Is n't it?
With all these developments, I am ashamed by being 'unsuccessful' in my challenge of   'PUTTAPARTHI SATHA JAYANTHI PRACHRANALU' like this.
Alllllllll apologies to that real 'SARASWATHI PUTRA'....
I hope that I will  complete this challenge (either on my own or other way) atleast till next VARDHANTHI of my father (1st Sep 2015).....
As mentined earlier previously in my blog, I want to be THANKFUL to my revered father through out my life 'cause he and my lovely mother have given me a 'succesful life'. I want to be succesful even in the 'MEGA PUBLICATION' of my father's works...Pl support my feelings my friendz.....

Tadavayeranannu brochutaku..A telugu devotional by Dr.Puttaparthi

....
The above  devotional song  is written by my revered father Dr.Puttaparthivaru and composed by Sri Palagummi Viswanadhamgaru, for Bhakthiranjani, AIR Hyd. prog. (now rendered by me friendz)
Dr.Puttaparthi told many a times that Srimannarayana was his main deity (upasya daivam) and so  'Astakshari mantra
was his chanting mantra. He completed some crores of rendering (japa) of the above mantra and afterwards continued the chanting without any count.
We, the family members used to see him doing the above 'japam' always. His right fingers used to move accordingly telling the viewers that he is chanting continuously.
'Astakshari' as per my father is the Mantra that is more suitable for the people aspiring for 'Mukthi' and so while in the couse of chanting, the mantra releives the bhaktha from all the worldly emotions.
This is the one which was rendered by Bhagavadramanuja from the top of the shrine, to all the common people irrespective of cast and creed, to get them MOKSHA.
When ever any sishya used to approach my father for any 'mantropadesam'. he used to tell him 'Mantram from a person like me, a Moksha aspirant, will give no benefits to u.Instead pl. go to 'mee amma' (puttaparthi's wife and our mother) for 'mantropadesam' cause she is devotee  of Rama, who stands for the 'family values'.
        'EkOpi KrisNasya sakRuth praNamaha
         daSaaswamEdhava bhRutEna tulyam,
         daSaaswamedhi punarEpi janma
         KrisNa praNAmO na punarbhavAya'
This was the sloka with which he used to start his RamayaNa  pravachanam in 1970s, at Sri Visweswaraalayam, Kadapa. The above sloka says that 'one namaskaram to Krishna is equal to ten aswamedha yagnams. one gets re-birth even after performing ten aswamedha yagnams, but with one pranam to Lord Krishna, that person will not get re-birth at all.
'People who want no re-birth, should worship Krishna'.So friiendz, in this auspecious moments of  'Sri Krishna Jayanthi' pl. render the name of 'Sri Krishna' as many a times as possible, do pranams to 'Sri Krishna' as many a times possible if u r fed up with the present trends of political dramas, FAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAASTTTTTT life and not able to 'LIVE the life' properly, peacefully and aesthetically.....
      'KrushNa paramAtma, yadukula ksheeravardhi
       PurNachandrama! Devakiputra, sujanavinutha,
       NarayaNAya,VisvESa, viSwa vandya,..

maa dEva, nIkidE praNuthi Sathamu'..  ..'Pothana'...........

Unforgettable.......

Friendz dears...As far as I remember, meeting my revered father was one of the 'IMPORTANT Things' to many of the writers when ever they used to come to kadapa in those days. Keeping in view his age also many poets were coming to our house and used to have ayyagari blessings for their book releases and request for a foreword for their books even. Sri Ogeti Achyutha Rama Sastrigaru came to my father along with a fotographer and took foto sitting besides my father. That might be one of his valuable remembrances. The above foto was printed in one of the News papers even...Hmmmmmm...So nice na?
Here is the recent article on my revered father's 'Meghadutham' published in 'Musi' a monthly literary journal from Hyderabad.,,

..
I am thankful to Shri Gabbita Durgaprasadgaru for forwarding this article to me....Friendz...My lil.sis Mrs. Anuradha and me always recollect the days in the precious presence of my revered father and mother. Recently she told her experience.  As she is younger to me by 9 years, she was still in second inter. One day she was reaching home after her tuition in the evening at about 7.45pm. On her way back home, she noticed police security in our street. She thought that 'why this security in the night? Probably any VIP is going this way.' As she came near our house she saw more police in the entrance of our hose too. Surprisingly when she entered home, she was told by the police to keep silence as 'District collector' is inside our home. As she entered into 'Padasaala' (hall in our coloquial house hold) she saw my ayyagaru talking to the collector from the 'DOMATERA' (Mosquito net) it self. Collector very obediently talked to my father and went away doing Padanamaskaram to Puttaparthi varu...That was the practice of respect being given to Puttaparthi varu in those days even by collector of the district...
Friendz..Now a days scene has changed..Is n't it? .... ..

Me and me lil.sis.Anuradha on recent Varalakshmivratham day..

Friendz dears,,
My recent activity is, going thru the old albums and trying to feed some important information about maa ayyagaru to u...In that process , I found out the following foto and wanted to share some thoughts with u all....
In the above foto, I could recognise only Vallampati Venkatasubbayya, (in a very young age) before the mike.Sitting on the dias, Puttaparthivaru also is seen.First from left...  Vallampati  was ardent lover of my father. Right from his college days. after his introduction to my father's writings, he never turned back, though his ideologies  changed and though his activities widened. He stated himself that he started writing novels as per the advise of my father. Later also he, in one of his reviews commented negetively on my father's work. Even then, my father Puttaparthivaru told him to be 'IMPARTIAL' and 'UNINFLUENCED' in criticism. The same way he followed until his last breath and Vallampati is being remembered as an Excellent critic of yester years. In this context, I feel the STRAIGHT FORWARDEDNESS of my revered father in advising Vallampativaru also to continue as a 'WORTHY CRITIC' and not as a mere reviewer- the same path followed by my revered father also, as a writer, critic, polyglot and vaggeyakara.

M S Subbulakshmi::Brahma Kadigina Paadamu

...

Friendz ears....The above song was very favourite of maa ayyagaru. He used to like Annamacharya for his poetic expressions, for  unique using of Rayalaseema sayings and proverbs, social consciousness and historic references too.
In the second stanza of the above song, reference to the 'PAMIDI TURAGAMU" is there. In one of his articles and lectures too, maa ayyagaru clarified about this particular reference.
His explanation was the following.
'In the above stanza, the PAMIDI TURAGAMU means Annamayya is referring to the 'KALKI' avathara here with the last and  superior breed of HORSE.  During Annamayya's period, 'Pamidi' a place in Ananthapur district, was considered to be a place where all the horses of superior quality and that were used in battles were kept in groups and maintained by the soldiers.  (These were  called 'SKANDAAVARAMULU). Here Annamayya is referring to Kaliki Avathara with  that superior breed of horse.
Here I want to make a very interesting and unimaginable fascination of maa ayyagaru .
Friendz, U all very clearly know that Puttaparthivaru, was being referred to as 'Saraswatiputra' and this was 100% true. As per the old saying Knowledge (Education) and money never exist together. So there was always lack of money in our house. Puttaparthi wrote many a books for want of money like Rs.200/ or Rs.300/ even in those days. Naturally he was not in a position to publish his own books even. Though in his 60s, economically our family became stable to some extent, one can not refer that period as a 'suitable and comfortable period' for a poet of stature like Puttaparthivaru.

..
..

..
U may wonder why these pictures of 'HORSE RACES' are brought here. Look , I am explaining here. Pl. go through this interesting turning in maa ayyagaru's life..

Maa ayyagaru, in his 'SAYAM SANDHYA' days (senior citizenship) developed a fascination of  the above 'Horse races' that were popular in Madras only in those days. (1970s)
Sri RaghottamaRao, one of the very devoted disciples of Puttaparthi, by profession was a Mathematics and English Senior Pandit. But his very love was 'Astrology'. Puttaparthi was his 'Mantra Guru' and he was also having a very deep love towards Astrology. They both were spending months (even forgetting the food and bed) discussing about Puttaparthi's future.(Raghottma Rao garu taught me English grammer in those days)
One day sishya Sri Raghottama Rao very unusually was in hurry to go home.Puttaparthi enquired. The sishya answered. 'Guruvugaru, Pl. don't scold me if I tell the truth. I have been introduced to 'Horse races' by one of my friendz recently. He believes my astrology. With my predictions, he purchases tickets for these races from an agent near the town 1 police station in our Kadapa. This is the time I promised him to meet. Pl. excuse me. We will sit tomorrow again.'
Puttaparthi gave permission. But in  his inner minds, Puttaparthi also started thinking about these races.
The next day when they met again, Puttaparthi asked Sri Raghottamarao, the details of these races, and the procedure of selecting the tickets on the horse's numbers.
The sishya said 'Guruvugaru, We have collected the details (bio-datas) of all the horses participating and also of the 'JAKEYS' handling them. So based on their calibre, previous track history and also the details of the time of that particular day, I select some numbers means horses, and my friend purchases the tickets. I have my share if my presumption comes true even to some extent. That is our understanding.' Needless to say that this sishya of Puttaparthi was also a true sishya - means only well educated with no enough money..
Puttaparthi liked this understanding of both friends and even wanted to try his luck even with his small share.
That's how this episode of 'Horse races' started in our house that went on for some months.
Raghottama Rao's friend also was coming to our place and more and more calculations and magical numbers were being fixed in the upstairs of our home.
Though, marriages of my three elder sisters were over till that time, rest of us, three children (my brother Arvind, me and my lil. sis Anuradha) were still studying means not yet setteled.
My mother Smt Kanakamma,   was in  true sense  'ARDHANGI', She was worrying about this new but very very futile activity.
Raghotama Rao's family was also dead against this. There were very less occasions of getting money through these races.
After some months, due to these negative waves from both the families, this activity got stopped.
Alas, maa ayyagaru tried to prove himself as a "LAKSHMI PUTRA" also by trying like this, but  Lakshmi never blessed him fully in his life time.
We have seen maa ayyagaru, literally unable to give better treatment to his wife (my mother) when she was suffering with 'Brain hemerage' from 1975 till the time of her demise in 1983.
Though he was very famous as 'SARASWATHIPUTRA', I have seen his struggle in getting recognised as a 'Writer of reputation' by the  Cultural Department of the then State Government. Very meagre amount from  Rs.500/ to maximum  Rs.800/ he was getting as monthly ARTIST pension from the government, that too very irregularly. In his last days(after my mother's demise, from 1983 until his 'PARAMAPADAM' in 1990)  he thrived to get a pension of at least Rs.1000/ to fulfil his needs.
As per my elder sisters, after my joining in AIR, Kadapa, our economical condition was something better.
Now, with my parents blessings and their UPASANA BALAM, we are doing well, but alas.....maa ayyagaru, and amma are not there with us now.....

I feel guilty all the time now........What do u say dear  friendz?

Friendz dears.....
Here r some more pictures I wanted to share with u.

Friendz....As u all know, maa ayyagaru, Puttaparthivaru, though marked as a 'Bhaktha Kavi', never he was forgetting his social consciousness. He was beleiving that 'SOCIALISM' must be welcomed into our country. In his 'Meghadutham'  also, he reiterated the need of  'SAMASAMAJAM' and described the tears of the deprived castes of society. He was again and again telling that though he is a 'Parama Bhaktha' of Astakshari, the pathetic lives of under privileged and karma siddhantha bothers him a lot.
Above is the picture in which Dr.Puttaparthi is expressing his views on South Africa's struggle for freedom (in 1978 as the picture says).
Here is another story to share friendz.....

U all know with whom my ayyagaru is standing here with a thick 'GADDAM' (thick and long beard) This it self tells that he is not well. Is n't it? 'U r right....at that time maa ayyagaru was suffering severely with 'wet fluracy'. u all know that he was an ardent lover of 'BEEDIES' and though he wanted to get rid of this habit he could not do it in his life time.  Sri Hanuman Chouday came to Kadapa in 1982.As  Maa ayyagaru was suffering with 'Wet fluracy' in those days and  Sri Hanuman Choudarygaru knows how to honour poets, he himself came to our house and met my father. he was for more than one  hour in our house. They both chit chatted on different topics from poetry to politics.
Maa ayyagaru was very much pleased with Choudarygaru's visit and presented some of his books to him too.
So friendz dears...Hope to meet u in next schedule with a different story.......Thanks for sparing ur time and I take leave with a sincere request to spare ur time again and again for more information on Puttaparthivaru...

Friendz, I know that we r al familiar with this famous personality. But I want to share another interesting story  now...

Shri Varavara Raogaru is very famous poet, critic, human activist and also excellent journalist. I now want to add that he was very fond of maa ayyagaru Puttaparthivaru's poetry while he was working. He was so mad after 'Sivathandavam' of maa ayyagaru and by-hearted the work completely in those days. While he was working at 'judcherla' he invited maa ayyagaru to that town twice or thrice to give literary lectures. Below is the very rare photo of 26th Feb. 1967 when Puttaparthivaru gave extensive lecture on 'POTHANA' in Judcherla college where Varavara raogaru was working.....
In the above photo of 1967, maa ayyagaru is 4th from left 6th being Sri Varavara Raogaru. Can u recognise him here in black pants and pure white shirt friendz? And now another connoisseur of maa ayyagaru's poetry I know is 6th from right in the back row, Acharya Srirangacharya, who worked as Lecturer and Principal of Sanskrit college, Palem who was and is also a thick friend of Varavara Raogaru.
Acharya Sriranga Charya, Acharya Ravva Srihari and Acharya Lakshmana Murthy (warangal)  were the three friendz who were almost 'sishyas' of maa ayyagaru in 1960s. Though they them selves have become famous in their own fields now a days, they still remember their deep reverence towards Puttaparthivaru till now. Srirangacharyavaru recollects very joyfully  how maa ayyagaru was very much adicted to beedies and coffee  in those days.He also told me recently that once these friends published my father's 'Sivathandavam'. While maa ayyagaru was returning back to Kadapa from Judcherla after lecture,  they placed the 500copies bundle of 'Sivathandavam' by his side in the train and asked him to take home that parcel without forgetting.Puttaparthi very seriously nodded his head, and the friendz took leave. Puttaparthi as usual immersed in  reading the favorite dictionary prepared by self.  As Puttaparthi reached Kadapa station, he went away home, without taking the parcel of 'Sivathandavam' books placed by his side by the above friendz. That was the power of his 'very studious reading'. Even me also noticed how he forgets every thing around in his mad habit of reading. After some days, in a letter to Puttaparthi,  Srirangacharya enquired whether Puttaparthi and the bundle of books reached Kadapa safely. After some days, Puttaparthi in his reply,  very sincerely agreed his mistake of forgetting the bundle in the train it self which was not traced out after many a trials. That was the story behind the above photo friendz..
Hope u agree that Puttaparthi was a 'DEEEEEPPPPP reader' and a very 'Sincere absent minded polyglot and poet'.

Dear friendz......Here is another photo to share with u all which  is also connected  with maa ayyagaru...As mentioned earlier, Maa ayyagaru and Jammalamadaka were good friedz.
My father visited Guntur many a times to give lectures on different topics. The above foto was taken when he was called to participate in a kavisammelanam, in 1967.
3rd from left is Jammalamadakavaru and 5th maa ayyagaru. Besides my father is Rajanna kavi, who was my father's sishya. He was famous for his KRISHNA portion in pouranika plays with a very melodious voice. He used to start all his lectures with Guruvandanam (my father). He learnt many more things aboutvasucharitra from maa ayyagaru.
I used to accompany maa ayyagaru to many a places. I went to Guntur also and was friendly with the children of Jammalamadakagaru.
Before I forget, I want to mention one thing. As u all know, my father, Puttaparthivaru was famous for his writings and also for his literary lectures. There is one more thing to mention here. ..
...
...

U might be shocked to see the above images in this story of Puttaparthivaru...Yes yes..I am coming to describe the above story now....Maa ayyagaru was equally fond of poetry and smoking. He used to like charminar beedies. Some body advised him to say 'goodbye' to beedies. Instead he can change to 'pogaku chuttalu' and so he started him fancy to 'pogaku' and when ever he used to go to Gunturu ( I was a witness)  he used to bring 'pacchi pogaku' and ordered my amma(his ardhangi) Smt.Kanakammagaru, to wet them and prepare 'pogaku chuttalu' for him and my mother used to do it for him.
But..but..of times, our house became 'FLOROSCENT' (full of pogaku scents) very fastly. As My father, was also anew for pogakuchuttalu, he also was suffering in practicing this new habit. .It took more of his time to become 'expert' in pogaku smoking. Slowly every body including his admirers, friendz and family members started advising him to say 'goodbye' to even pogaku. In no other go, maa ayyagaru, said bye bye to pogaku even. But after some days, his 'LOST LOVE' beedi entered into his life and now PUTTAPARTHI felt happy to order my mother (his ardhangi) to bring beedies as usual in the monthly budget...So friendz..this is the story of 'GUNTURU POGAKU' in puttaparthi's life..wat do u say?..

Friendz dears.....when we met last time I posted a story connected with Puttaparthi's life. Is n't it? Pl. have a look at the following photo and the background behind it also.

This is the photo at New Delhi in a sahitya sabha where maa ayyagaru Dr.Puttaparthivaru gave a guest lecture on Telugu literature in a meeting arranged by Sri Damodaram Sanjivayyagaru, the then M.P. in 1964. Puttaparthivaru went to New Delhi to receive award as 'Best Teacher'. Damodaramvaru  was very excited and recollected Puttaparthi's poem from 'SHAJEE' (one of his telugu text books) as he used to like it as an intermediate student.

నవ్యతరమైన యొక్క గానస్రవంతి,కొకడు తల ఊచు మరియొకడోసరించు,
వీణదే దోషమా? లేక వినెడివారి తప్పిదమ? భావభేదములె సుమ్ము....

Though Sanjivayyagaru was Puttaparthi's ardent worshiper,  Puttaparthi never used Sanjivayya's  reverence in any of the ways. That was Puttaparthi who only had a deep faith on his own caliber.
Any how Puttaparthi was well honored after his lecture with a shawl and Rs.516/ (which was a good amount in those days), he came back to Kadapa with a complete satisfaction that his worth has been honored well. do u agree friendz that was the great wisdom of  50 year old Puttaparthi.

Friendz dears.....
Here is another important story that is also connected to maa ayyagaru Puttaparthivaru's life itself.
I think u all remember the name of 'PITT' a British lady whom my ayyagaru remembers very obediently again and again as his english teacher, who taught him Shakespeare, Milton, Byron, Keats and Shelly. At the age of 13-14, he was introduced to english literature by her. when we (DDK, Hyd. team) all went to Penugonda in connection with his documentary, he recollected many a things from his childhood, sitting  before the building where Mrs.Pitt  lived. Now pl. go thru the following news item connected to Mrs.Pitt who is mentioned in Puttaparthi's life too.

Friendz....Puttaparthivaru-maa ayyagaru was deprived of mother's
affection as he lost his mother at the very tender age of four.
But he remembers very clearly that his father Shriman Puttapathi Tirumala Sreenivasacharya and his mother Smt Mendamma (Puttaparthi himself mentioned his mother's name as Mendamma in some places, as Lakshmamma in some places, but in one of his most important letters, he mentioned her name as 'Mendamma' the telugu version for Alamelu Mangamma) used to write letters in poetic form describing the cute child 'balanarayana's (Puttaparthi) childishness. As maa ayyaaru lost his mother in very tender age, he found his mother in JILLELLAMUDI ammagaru and so he used to visit Jillellamudi seceral times. I also went to Amma, twice along with my father. My mother Smt.Puttaparthi Kanakamma, my lil.sis. Smt. Puttaparthi Anuradha also went there along with him once or twice. So maa ayyagaru wept like a child before Jillellamudi amma as he got that motherly affection from her.
Friendz..These r some of the reminiscences of maa ayyagaru thru the pen of Sri Ramamohanroy garu  recently published in 'Navya' (courtesy- as usual sri Ramavajjhala Srisailam and his son Sri Saikrishna)

Friendz...dears....

While I was  working at All India Radio, Hyderabad, as a Producer (1988 to 1994) I looked after Folk music section for a long time. I was and am happy that I got a great opportunity to work for the section handled by Smt.Vinjamuri Seeta Devi. I  being a singer and collector of folk songs,  contributed a lot for that section by doing regular Auditions, recording original Folk songs by rustic singers like Sarvasri Suddala Balayya, 'Andesri' (now very famous cine lyricist) V.Sreenivas ('pilla neevuleni jeevitham' fame of block buster film 'Gabbar Singh' ) S.Prabhakar, M.Narasimha Murthy, Chukka Sattaiah, Midde Ramulu (Oggukatha famous) and so on.
I used to present 'Magazine programmes' on folk lyrics, ballads and folk culture too.
In that series I used to record sri Mallepally Lakshmayya garu today's famous Telangana activist, Acharya Kasireddy Venkata Reddygaru, Sri Gopu Linga Reddygaru, Acharya ravi Bharathi, Acharya Nayani Krishnakumari etc. In those series once I recorded Sri Kapu rajayya also on 'Telangana pat paintings'.

As I talked to him twice or thrice on phone regarding the topic and the type of questions I have to frame, I told him that I am 4th daughter  of Dr.Puttaparthivaru. He was so excited and told me that he will bring a gift to me while coming for the interview...On the  date of recording, after his interview he has taken out very valuable gift from his bag for me..Can u guess what it might be? ......Pl. guess until my next post....Don't forget to come back to me tomorrow to know the gift he presented to me...OK?
